It seems like just yesterday I left Crete to come to the Netherlands to pursue my studies in Economics and Marketing. It was one of the most difficult decisions I had to make because I love Greece, however I gave into my desire to experience life in a totally different culture. I miss my friends and family, I need their support, but I am so grateful I got the chance to live somewhere else and push my limits.
The master itself is a hard challenge, the language, different customs, distance from loved ones are only few of the difficulties I had to face, but there are so many upsides to this choice that it is worth all the hardships. First, you meet people that challenge your mind, make friendships for life and gain knowledge to make the next step in your career. Let’s face it, travelling from Western countries across Europe is much easier (thanks to trains and busses) and that offers great opportunities to explore other countries. You get many more opportunities to visit places and gain more experiences.
So, if you are considering studying abroad or go job hunting in a totally different country, I would say go for it. There are hard times that make you stronger and help you unveil different aspects of yourself. Signing those papers to come to Rotterdam is one of the best decisions I ever made and the fact that my best friend joined me made everything even greater. Don’t hesitate, set out and write your own story.
